August 10, 2011 –

It was 22°C under a few clouds, but track and weather conditions were ideal to start the 2011 version of the Battle of the North Championship in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Former Battle of the North finalist Chad Harden opened up this year’s championship with the top time on opening night.

Coming off barrel number 4 in heat number 6, Harden, driving the Streeper and Sons Trucking Ltd. outfit posted a time of 1:16.02 and placed first overall for the day by 87 one-hundreds of a second over Evan Salmond who settled for 2nd place on the night. Mark Sutherland, Rick Fraser and Cody Ridsdale rounded out the top 5 for the night.

The Battle of the North is part of the Ram Cup Series. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will go into the sudden death championship final heat where the winner will take home a 2011 Dodge truck, a $10,000.00 bonus cheque, and the 2011 Battle of the North Championship.

Racing from the Battle of the North in Dawson Creek can be heard live every night starting at 7:00pm (MST) on Classic Country AM1060 out of Calgary, 890AM CJDC out of Dawson Creek and 99.7 FM The Wolf out of Bonnyville.
