At the 2016 Mane Event in Red Deer we saw these pieces of art that we just had to share with our readers. Only an artist can sift through the ashes of a tragedy and create something beautiful.
When metal artist Joan Herbert’s son Tyler and his family lost their barn (and all their tack) in a fire, he collected up two large pails of burnt metal, handed it to his mom and asked, “Can you make anything with this?”
“I was pretty excited to think of what I could do with all the wonderful western (and some English) parts,” says Herbert.
What came out is now the showpiece of Tyler’s new barn. Look closely; you’ll find bits, fencing pliers, cinch rings and rigging plus other pieces. This sculpture is not for sale.
