Beautiful weather and an enthusiastic crowd greeted the forty cowhands July 4 in the High Chaparral Arena.
The eight teams, which included an all-cowgirl team led by bronc rider “Pearl” Hammond, were auctioned off calcutta-style before the competition, with a percentage going to Maple Creek’s Jasper Cultural & Historical Centre.
TJ Nicoll won the Bill Gilchrist Memorial Award for the best bronc ride. Kyle Elliott wasn’t able to hold on for the required six seconds on his bronc, but he did win the Jim Buffalocalf Memorial Award for having the wildest ride.
Congratulations to the 2015 Champions: Josh Stenger, Clay Yeast, Jay Stokke, TJ Nicholl and Jeremy Good. They earned bragging rights for a year, and their names will be engraved on the prestigious Hereford Cup.
