Very sad news this morning for country music – the legendary George Jones has passed away at 81, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville early this morning. Jones was hospitalized on April 18, with fever and irregular blood pressure, according to his publicist Kirt Webster.
Jones has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1956, inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and won numerous awards including Male Vocalist of the year and Song of the Year for ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’.
George Jones is in my opinion one of those musicians that helped defined country music, he was and will continue to be a true legend!
One of his many hits, ‘Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes’ seems to be an appropriate song for today.
