Joe Marten Award

Len Monical’s “Wild Mare”

Congratulations to horse trainer and artist Len Monical of 108 Mile, B.C., who is the recipient of the 2015 Joe Marten Memorial Award for the Preservation of Cowboy Heritage in B.C.

His life’s work has centred around the cowboy lifestyle, horses and art. Some of the cutting horses he trained earned their way into the Canadian Cutting Horse Hall of Fame. Len is the sculptor of the main trophy for the B.C. Cowboy Hall of Fame and one of his bronzes was presented to Prince Philip in 1983.

His works all show action, of which he states, “If you can’t capture the action, all you have is a statue.”
