The 20th anniversary of the Kamloops Cowboy Festival was, in a word, fabulous! It was a full-blown reunion of the majority of those who were at the first festival, and there was a full house of celebrated poets, pickers and fans, many of whom have been to every festival.
There was no shortage of awards handed out over the weekend, including two winners of the Mike Puhallo Memorial Scholarship. First place went to Megan Bull, Penticton, B.C. for her poem, A Cowboy, Through and Through (printed in the June/July 2016 issue) and second was awarded to Angela Leung from Burnaby with Early Morning Sonnet of the West.
