Buyers from across the West flocked to Maple Creek for the 11th annual Ranch Country Horse Sale Sept. 12.

There were 74 top-quality equines listed in the catalog, including foals, and the sale saw some dramatic bidding action incited by auctioneer Darren Shaw of Southern Alberta Livestock Exchange.

The high selling foal was Lot #31, consigned by Ken and Marg Perrin. The 2015 AQHA buckskin filly was purchased by Jerry and Maggie Klammer of Four Point Outfitters, Mundare, Alta., for $3,300. The Klammer’s received a custom embroidered jacket for purchasing the foal.

The high selling saddle horse was Lot #72, KD Chex The Bronsin owned and shown by guest consignor Mike Doody of Claydon, Sask. After spirited bidding, the 2008 AQHA buckskin gelding sold for $15,000 to Garth Horton of Horton Livestock, Maple Creek. Garth also received a custom wool saddle pad handcrafted by Rachelle Sunderland.

The prices for the top five selling foals averaged $1,700, while the top five saddle horses averaged $11,700.
