George Canyon to Take the Stage in FREE Concert on the Square

River City Round Up Announces Canadian Music Legend as Headliner

Edmonton, AB – River City Round Up is thrilled to announce that Canadian Country Music Legend, George Canyon, will be taking the stage to entertain kick-off attendees on November 3 in Sir Winston Churchill Square. Things just got a little warmer for the outdoor day-long event with one of Canada’s hottest country acts taking the stage for a free concert for fans at 5:30 p.m.

“The Kick-Off Party is a way for us to start River City Round Up with a bang and we are so excited to be able to have George Canyon headline our main stage entertainment and perform for all of his fans in a unique free community concert,” stated Richard L. Andersen, President and CEO of Northlands.

Northlands is once again proud to host the 2012 edition of River City Round Up, a 10-day celebration of Edmonton’s agriculture and western heritage with events across the city including Northlands two main events Farmfair International (November 4-11) and Canadian Finals Rodeo (November 7-11). The Kick Off spans two days in Sir Winston Churchill Square and begins on Friday, November 2 with the 22nd Annual Chili Cook Off at noon with a BBQ, Buckle on the Square and live entertainment from 4:30 p.m.– 9:30 p.m. Saturday, November 3 activities start at 10 a.m. with the City Market Downtown and then at 11 a.m. with loads of free family activities, cultural performances, live entertainment with George Canyon closing the main stage and a spectacular fireworks display immediately following his performance.

George Canyon competed in Nashville Star 2 in 2004, blowing audiences away as the only Canadian finalist and coming in runner up in the competition. This experience catapulted his country music career and immediately garnered him many accolades including the top 5 hit “My Name”, a Juno Award for Best Country Recording of the Year (for his album One Good Friend), and, four Canadian Country Music Awards Nominations (CCMAs) including Male Vocalist of the Year and the Fan Choice Award.

Other George Canyon hits include Saddle Up (Better Be Home Soon, 2011), I Believe in Angels (What I Do, 2008), Ring Of Fire (Classics, 2007), Drinkin’ Thinkin’ (Somebody Wrote Love, 2006) to name only a few. His current hit single, Rhinestone Cowboy, is the debut song from the highly anticipated upcoming album, Classics II (to be released in November). He has sold over 375,000 albums and his critically acclaimed music continues to grow with every record. In addition to country music, George is proudly a dedicated husband and a father of two, the appointed colonel commandant of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and the national spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. www.georgecanyon.com.
