After four days of running, Kelly Sutherland, Kirk Sutherland, Grant Profit and Troy Dorchester survived the playoff round and would participate in the sudden death championship final heat to declare the winner of the 2011 WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship. Track conditions were fast, weather conditions were a perfect 22°C and it was another spectacular night of racing at the WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship and Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede.
Once again it was an exciting final heat witnessed by a capacity crowd, and when it was over the Strathmore Station & Travel Lodge outfit, driven by Kelly Sutherland along with outriders Reo King and Chanse Vigen, took home the season showcase WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship and the brand new Dodge Truck.
In a penalty free sudden death championship final heat, and from the number 1 barrel position, Kelly Sutherland beat out his brother Kirk Sutherland who placed 2nd in the heat from barrel number 2, followed by Troy Dorchester who placed 3rd from barrel number 4 and finally Grant Profit placed 4th from barrel number 3, to capture the WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship in Monday’s sudden death final. It’s a record third time Kelly Sutherland has won the Dodge Pro Tour Championship breaking the record he shared with former drivers Norm Cuthbertson and Neal Walgenbach.
Top time for the day for the second consecutive day went to Troy Flad driving the Ironwood Building Systems Outfit. Coming off barrel number 4 in heat number 5, Flad again posted the fast time of the week with a 1:13.30, and won the day money by 40 one-hundreds of a second over Kelly Sutherland who placed 2nd overall for the night. Kirk Sutherland, Jerry Bremner and Jason Glass made out the top 5 for the night.
Kelly Sutherland, driving the Strathmore Station & Travel Lodge outfit, and along with outriders Reo King and Chanse Vigen, also captured the Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede title last night after posting the best 4-day aggregate time of 4:58.30.
The WPCA Dodge Pro Tour will now embark on Bonnyville for the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship starting Thursday, August 4, 2011 and running through to Sunday, August 7, 2011. Racing from Bonnyville can be heard live starting at 7:00pm Thursday through Saturday, with Sundays coverage starting at 2:00pm on Classic Country AM1060 out of Calgary, 890AM CJDC out of Dawson Creek and 99.7 FM The Wolf out of Bonnyville.
