Tommy Glass, a founding member of the WPCA, was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, joining his legendary father, Ron.
Tom is a three-time World Champion as well as winning both the Calgary Stampede and the Ponoka Stampede—the two biggest WPCA chuckwagon shows—four times. Tom won several other shows during his career including the famous Cheyenne Frontier Days on two occasions.
Tom is the current patriarch of the famous Glass/Lauder/Cosgrave family dynasty that has dominated chuckwagon racing since its inception in the 1920s at the Calgary Stampede.
He remains active in the sport, helping son Jason Glass train horses in the spring and assisting in Jason’s barn regularly during the season. He also serves as the expert colour analyst for CBC’s television coverage of the Calgary Stampede each year.
Also inducted posthumously from the Western world were rodeo legends Raymond Knight and Earl Bascom who both received the Pioneer Award.
The induction banquet was held May 24 in Red Deer, Alta.
